Quick answer

Yes, foreigners can work in Korean factories, but the correct route depends on the worker and the job. For a person applying from abroad for non-professional manufacturing work, the main government route is usually the E-9 visa through the Employment Permit System (EPS).

This is not the same as finding a vacancy on a normal job board and asking for a visa. Under EPS, the official process includes language testing, preparation of a job-seeker roster, employer selection, a standard employment contract, visa issuance, entry training and workplace assignment. Passing EPS-TOPIK makes you eligible for later stages; it does not guarantee a factory job.

Online searches for factory jobs in Korea for foreigners often mix together very different situations: an overseas EPS applicant, a skilled engineer seeking professional sponsorship, and a foreign resident who already has permission to work. The first step is not sending the same résumé everywhere. It is identifying which route legally fits you.

1. Which factory-job route applies to you?

Your situation Likely starting point What to understand
You are abroad and want non-professional manufacturing work E-9 through EPS Use your country’s designated EPS/sending process. Employer selection occurs within the official system.
You are a specialist, engineer or technician applying for a professional role Check the relevant professional work-visa route The job title, duties, qualifications, employer and visa occupation code must match. Do not assume every job inside a factory is an E-9 job.
You already live in Korea with a status that may permit work Check your exact work authorization first Permission varies by status and sometimes by activity. Confirm before accepting or starting work.
You are on E-9 and want to move to another factory Workplace-change rules apply An E-9 worker cannot treat every new vacancy as a free transfer. Read the dedicated workplace-change guide before acting.

Do not confuse E-9 with ordinary visa sponsorship

For the standard overseas E-9 route, a private job-board application does not replace EPS. If you are pursuing a professional job instead, start with our complete guide to working in Korea and the job-platform guide for foreign professionals.

2. How the official E-9/EPS process works

The Ministry of Employment and Labor identifies manufacturing as part of the E-9 Employment Permit System in 2026. The official worker process is structured; it is not simply “apply to a factory and fly to Korea.”

1. Official recruitmentFollow the EPS announcement and designated sending authority in your country.
2. EPS-TOPIK and screeningComplete the language test and any skills, health or document stages required for your recruitment round.
3. Job-seeker rosterQualified applicants are prepared and transmitted through the official roster process.
4. Employer selectionA Korean employer chooses a suitable candidate through EPS and obtains an employment permit.
5. Standard contractThe proposed employment conditions are sent through the official system for the worker’s confirmation.
6. Visa and placementAfter the contract and immigration steps, the worker enters Korea, completes employment education and is assigned to the workplace.

Important: The exact announcement calendar, documents, secondary tests and roster administration can differ by sending country and recruitment round. Use your government’s designated sending agency, not a social-media intermediary, for country-specific instructions.

Who chooses the worker?

The Korean employer makes the selection from candidates referred through the official system. That is why a language-test pass and a roster position are not the same as a job offer. A contract exists only after an employer selects the worker and the standard employment contract is finalized through the EPS process.

3. What factory work may involve

“Factory job” is a broad search term, not one official occupation. Depending on the employer and production line, work may involve:

  • assembling or processing products;
  • feeding, monitoring or assisting with production machinery;
  • packing, labeling or preparing finished goods;
  • visual inspection and basic quality checks;
  • moving materials or organizing a work area; or
  • cleaning and following production and safety procedures.

These are practical examples, not a promise about a particular placement. The actual job is determined by the employer, workplace and written contract. Factory environments may also involve standing for long periods, repetitive work, shift schedules, noise, heat, cold or required protective equipment. Ask about the real workstation and schedule before agreeing.

A useful question to ask

Do not stop at “manufacturing.” Ask: What product does the factory make, what will I do during a normal shift, which machines or materials are involved, and where is the actual worksite?

4. How to apply safely from abroad

  1. Check whether your country participates in the relevant EPS recruitment. Use the EPS mother-tongue service and your government’s designated sending authority.
  2. Read the current recruitment notice. Confirm the eligible industry, application window, tests, documents and official payment instructions for that round.
  3. Prepare for EPS-TOPIK. HRD Korea explains that the test evaluates Korean needed for daily life, industry and Korean workplace culture.
  4. Complete every official screening stage. A pass may still need to be followed by health checks, job application, skills testing or document review.
  5. Track your status through official channels. Keep copies of receipts, notices, test results and submitted documents.
  6. Review the standard contract before agreeing. Do not rely on a verbal description or a translated social-media message.
  7. Wait for the official visa and travel instructions. Do not buy a ticket or leave another job merely because someone says selection is “almost confirmed.”

5. What to check before accepting a factory contract

The standard employment contract is one of the most important documents in the process. Read our E-9 employment-contract guide for a detailed explanation. At minimum, confirm:

  • the employer’s legal name and the actual workplace address;
  • the contract period and expected start date;
  • the job description and whether it matches what you were told;
  • regular working hours, rest days and how overtime is handled;
  • the wage, payment date and every stated allowance or deduction;
  • whether accommodation or meals are provided and what they cost;
  • the probation terms, if any; and
  • how you will receive and keep your own copy of the final contract.

Never sign a contract you cannot verify

If the employer name, location, job, wage, deductions or accommodation terms are different from what you were promised, stop and ask the official sending authority for clarification before confirming.

6. What if you passed EPS-TOPIK but have no offer?

Passing the test is progress, but it does not mean an employer has selected you. The next stages can include job application, roster processing, employer selection and contract finalization. There is no single official waiting time that applies to every country, industry and recruitment round.

Use our dedicated guide, Passed EPS-TOPIK but No Job Offer?, to understand how to check your stage, what you can safely update and which promises to avoid.

7. Scam warnings and official help

Warning signs

  • someone promises guaranteed employer selection or a guaranteed E-9 visa;
  • a private person claims they can bypass EPS or move you to the front of the roster;
  • payment is demanded to a personal account without an official notice or receipt;
  • the job description, employer name or worksite keeps changing;
  • you are pressured to hand over your original passport or sensitive account information; or
  • you are told to enter Korea on a visitor status and start factory work first.

Where to verify information

  • EPS/Work24 foreign-worker portal and its mother-tongue services;
  • the designated government sending authority in your country;
  • Foreign Workers Counseling Center: 1577-0071;
  • MOEL labor call center: 1350 (the Ministry’s English page lists +82-52-702-5089 for overseas calls); and
  • your competent employment center for employer-permit or workplace matters.

If you are already employed and considering another factory, read the E-9 workplace-change guide before quitting or accepting a new offer.

8. Frequently asked questions

Can I get an E-9 factory job through LinkedIn or a Korean job site?

A normal job board does not replace the standard overseas EPS route. Job platforms are more relevant to professional roles or people who already have appropriate work authorization. An overseas E-9 manufacturing applicant should follow EPS and the designated sending process.

Does passing EPS-TOPIK guarantee a factory job?

No. HRD Korea describes the test as a selection criterion for the foreign job-seeker list. Employer selection and the standard contract are later, separate stages.

Can I choose the exact factory or city?

Do not assume you can freely choose every employer or location in the standard EPS process. Review the employer and worksite information you receive before confirming the contract, and ask the official sending authority what choices are available in your recruitment round.

How much do factory jobs in Korea pay?

There is no responsible single answer. Actual pay depends on the written wage, scheduled hours, overtime, allowances and lawful deductions. This article intentionally does not publish an unverified “average factory salary.” Check the proposed contract and the site’s current wage source-of-truth when available.

Can I change factories after arriving?

E-9 workplace changes are restricted and require a permitted reason and official procedure. Do not quit based only on a new verbal offer. Read the dedicated workplace-change guide and confirm your case with the employment center.

Should I pay a broker to get selected faster?

Treat any guaranteed-selection claim as a serious warning sign. Use only official payment instructions and obtain official receipts. Verify the person or organization with your designated sending authority before paying or sharing documents.

Fact-check note: The core E-9 manufacturing route and EPS sequence were checked against Ministry of Employment and Labor, EPS/Work24 and HRD Korea pages on July 31, 2026.
