How to Register for K-Pass as a Foreigner in Korea (2026): Card and Address Verification

You have a K-Pass card—but are you registered to receive its transit benefit? For a foreign resident, buying or receiving the card is only the first step. You also need to complete K-Pass membership, verify your identity and check that your registered address is recognized.

This guide walks through registration. If you are still deciding between K-Pass, Tmoney and Seoul’s transit products, see our Korea transportation card guide for the current comparison.

Quick answer
Get a participating card first. On the current official website, signup begins with identity verification, followed by card verification, an eligibility check and member information. Check your card and registered locality in your account before relying on a transit benefit.
Official source · reviewed September 20, 2026. The steps below follow the K-Pass eligibility page and the current signup entry screen. Later screens and available verification methods may vary. Follow the instructions shown in your own account.

Before you start: card and identity are separate

You need a participating card that has already been issued. An ordinary Tmoney card does not become a K-Pass account just because you use it for transit. Check the card issuer’s product information if you are unsure which card you received.

You will also need an identity-verification method accepted by the current signup screen. On September 20, it offered an easy certificate, phone verification by text or PASS, and a joint certificate; the joint-certificate option was labelled as available without a phone. Availability for your circumstances still needs to be confirmed on the live screen. Never use somebody else’s identity or account.

How to register for K-Pass

  1. Open the official service. Go to korea-pass.kr or the official K-Pass app and choose membership signup (회원가입). Avoid entering your identity or card details on a link sent by an unknown recruiter or social-media account.
  2. Verify your identity. The current signup flow begins with 본인인증. Choose one of the methods offered on your screen and complete verification in your own name. If a method fails, check the provider’s current requirements or ask K-Pass support.
  3. Verify the issued card. The next step is labelled 카드검증. Use the participating card you will actually travel with. The exact card-number entry fields appear after identity verification, so follow the live prompts.
  4. Complete the eligibility check. The current flow labels its third stage 비대면자격조회. Follow the questions and address or status checks presented for your own record. Do not infer that commuting in Seoul establishes Seoul residence for a local benefit.
  5. Enter member details and inspect your account. Finish 회원정보입력, then confirm that your card and registered locality are correctly shown. Keep a record of the account status, not a screenshot of your full identity number.

What if address verification fails?

If the service cannot confirm your address, follow the instructions shown in your account. If no suitable document or upload route appears, ask K-Pass support which current procedure applies before submitting anything.

Do not guess which certificate applies to your status. The document name and available menu may differ for a registered foreign national and a person with domestic residence reporting. Read the current upload instruction in your account, and ask K-Pass support if it does not identify a document you can obtain. Upload identity or residence evidence only through the official account workflow.

Newly arrived in Korea? If you do not yet have the registration number or address record needed for the check, you may not be able to finish K-Pass signup immediately. Use an ordinary transit-payment option while you complete your residence registration; see the Residence Card guide for that separate process.

After registration: what to check before your first claim

  • Does the account show the card you will actually tap on transit?
  • Does it show the correct registered local government?
  • If you expect a Seoul or Gyeonggi enhancement, is that benefit visible in your account? Do not infer eligibility from where you commute.
  • Do the current ride and reimbursement rules fit your expected travel? Review the transportation card guide and the official K-Pass notices rather than relying on an older percentage or threshold.

Common questions

Can a foreign resident join K-Pass?

Yes. The current official eligibility page explicitly says that foreign residents of participating local governments can join. You still need to meet the current conditions and complete verification for your own account.

Is buying the card enough?

No. The official eligibility page says you must join through the website or app to receive benefits. Complete signup and confirm the card appears in your account.

Can I register before my Residence Card or address record is ready?

The service must be able to verify the required identity and residence information. If your record is not yet available, check the current instructions or ask K-Pass support rather than entering someone else’s information.

Where do I get help with a failed check or missing benefit?

Use the contact information on the official K-Pass site. For a card-issuance problem, also ask the issuing card company. Tell support which step fails, but do not send your complete registration number or card number in a public comment.
